At the end of the consultation you will be prescribed homeopathic remedies and will be advised how often to take the medicine. Homeopathic remedies are usually taken in tablet or pillule form, but are also available in liquid and powder form. You may be prescribed a homeopathic gel or cream for topical use as well.
How are homeopathic remedies made?
Homeopathic remedies are manufactured by repeatedly diluting and succussing (shaking) a preparation of the original substance, mainly plants and minerals, in water and alcohol. After this the prepared solution is added to lactose tablets or pillules.
The strength of the remedies:
Over-the-counter homeopathic medicines that are available in high street shops tend to be in either the 6c or 30c potency. 6c means that the substance has undergone 6 steps in a series of dilutions, where each step involves diluting 1 part medicine to 99 parts alcohol/water.
The more stages of dilution and succussion the preparation has gone through, the more potent the medicine is - so a 30c medicine is more potent than a 6c medicine.
Homeopathy was established for over 200 years ago by German physician Samuel Hahnemann, This idea dates back to Hippocrates (460-377BC), who also thought that symptoms specific to an individual should be taken into account before making a diagnosis.
